The Spaziomusica festival has been active on the Sardinian cultural scene for four decades and is dedicated to the exploration of contemporary sound. Ranging from written to improvised music that resonates in today’s sonic landscape, it provides an imaginative optic on how we inhabit our world; a vision that comes into view in new musical productions, workshops and didactic activities in the thematic contexts of its conferences and seminars. Its projects explore the sonic idiosyncrasies of Sardinia, both in its language and its natural landscapes. The festival is dedicated to original productions aiming to explore the field of avant-garde music in its various branches, through multimedia excursions, as well as those bordering on and interacting with other means of expression, such as bodily movement and gestures, as well as the realm of images. 

The Spaziomusica Association was founded in 1982 by Franco Oppo, a well-known composer and musician on the international level, having been already acclaimed on the regional and national landscape in Italy. Among Spaziomusica’s achievements throughout its lifespan are: over 500 concerts performed, with the participation of 200 groups and circa 300 international conductors and soloists performing circa 1500 compositions written by over 600 20th century and contemporary composers, over 300 of which being debuts (over 200 of which Italian debuts). More than 40 editions have taken place in Cagliari and other locations on the island bringing prestigious national and international names to Sardinia.
